Easter

Eggs are an ancient and universal symbol of spring re-awakening and were adopted early by Christians to signify the resurrection. They were forbidden during Lent and were then given on Easter Sundar

There are many traditions that go on around the world with eggs, they are often painted, decorated or dyed. Natural dyes such as onion skins, furze blossom and the pasque flower have been used. Although in the present day we only seem to have brown eggs available and are difficult to dye.

There are a number of traditions that happen around the UK:
Easter egg hunts.
Egg rolling, normally down a large hill and the winner is the egg most in tact or the one that rolled through a target.
'dumped' this is were an egg is smashed against and opponents.
'shackled' - shaken in a sieve, the winner is the last one to crack.

Let me know if you have an old traditional egg game that goes on near you.
