Exploding Box
Here are some instructions for making an exploding
box. The instructions and pics were all created by Carol M on the
forum - my thanks for all her hard work. Click through for larger images,
and use the back button to return to the instructions. These instructions
were posted on the forum and there is a section on the gallery showing
lots of examples

You will need 3 sheets of 12x12 card
1 sheet of A4 card
I’ve used white but you can use a co-ordinated colour if you
wish too
Cut your first sheet of 12x12 card to a 9”x9” square
Cut your second to 8 5/8" x 8 5/8"
Cut your third to 8 1/4" x 8 1/4"
Now you will need to score your squares - each will end up
with nine squares:
Take the 9”x 9” and mark and 3” intervals – score each of the lines.
Take the 8 5/8" x 8 5/8" square at 2 7/8" intervals – score
each of the lines.
Take the 8 1/4" x 8 1/4" square at 2 3/4" intervals – score
each of the lines.

Now cut each of the corner squares away – it
will leave you with this
Do the same for each of the 3 sheets, and fold.
You can corner punch the corners if you wish
Now take 9” square and lay flat on the surface
Put ds tape on the back of the next sized square and place it onto the top of
the 9” square.
Take the smallest square, put ds tape on the back and then place that on top of
the middle size square
Once everything is stuck down, it should look like this
Making the lid:
Take your A4 sheet of card and cut to a 6 1/4" x 6 1/4" square . Score at 1 ½“
across and down the page
TURN YOUR SQUARE OVER and score
the corners ONLY of your cardstock. Start with the point in the inner square,
and score it outwards.
Pinch the corners where you have just scored and it should look
like this
Now tuck the corners underneath and glue them –
once they are all stuck it should look like this:
decorate your box as you wish

I also managed to do it in a slightly
smaller size using A4 card as I did not have any 12 X 12:
21cm square scoring at 7cm
20.1cm square scoring at 6.7cm
19.2cm square scoring at 6.4
and the lid 13.5 scoring at 3cm rim or for a smaller rim I would revise this to
12.5 - scoring at 2.5cm
