October Newsletter

We certainly had a lovely September down here in Bedfordshire, which made up a little bit for the rather bad summer holiday.  Autumn is now upon us and we have rather a lot of leaves already, I am thinking that some of my crafting is looking too summery.

I have been a busy getting a few things together for you all - I hope that you take time to have a look see.
I am always willing to 'publish' articles on the web site - if you want to share with the rest of the crafting world.

I have also been busy having a move around on the site - sorry - like to keep you all on your toes.  the 'How to' section was becoming a little overcrowded, so I have given the stamping a section all of its own, and some of the pther pages have been moved to ideas and inspiration....loads more room now!  If you spot a broken link or a missing image let me know - I may have missed it.

On a sad note, one of our long standing forum members Julie S, lost her battle with cancer in September, many of the members have made a donation to Macmillan Cancer via a Just Giving site I set up Julie - just giving .  Farewell Julie - you will be missed.

If you just want to find out "what's new"  - click through to the Crafts by Carolyn web site  I have also added a site map, which I am trying to keep up to date.

Resist Technique
I have added a guide and some ideas using 'resist' techinique with rubber stamping, although it doesn't have to be used exclusively with stamps.

Masks
- Masks are becoming popular - we called them stencils in the 80 and 90s!  Jackie and I have come up with some ways with masks - not necessarily just the ones that you buy.

Using your printer
Having written several pages about using your printer - I put it to good use for a commissioned card I was asked to make for a fiddle player, I actually used Inkscape to trace an outline of a fiddle, so that it looked like a stamp.  Inkscape is free and wirth getting downloaded if you don't have anything like that.  Have you managed to find the printing article useful?

Shrink Plastic
Jennie from the Artistic Stamper prepared a project on shrink plastic, this is a fascinating medium and well worth having a play with if you hve not tried it before.  These earrings are made using shrink plastic.

Challenges
Sue has launched the second part in her scrapbooking challenge - have you had a go yet?  Check out the details here.  Watch out for new activities just starting - we like to get swapping, sharing and making.

Swaps
There is a regular monthly ATC swap - so if you fancy giving it a go check out the forum and the gallery to see what you have to do.  We are in the process of swapping a rubber stamp in the post.  We also swapped some stamped Christmas images.  I hope to start a few more off - so if you want to have a go at something in a small friendly group - pop along and join us.

Comments or Suggestions
If you have any comments or suggestions for new features or projects, or even activities on the forum it would be lovely to hear from you.

Forum
Chat still continues on the forum - talking about the latest Christmas products and new die cutters...and a whole lot more.  Many other crafts are covered, including beads, knitting and even cookery and gardening.

Don't forget once you are registered you can click the 'posts since last visit' and you can see everything that has happened.

It would be great for you to stop by, all members are welcome old and new, it would be lovely to welcome back some of you that have drifted away, and join in with the many activities and discussions we have.

Vintage Photos
Last year I spent ages scanning an old photo album that belonged to my Nanna (and by the looks of it her mother). All the photos are here.  If you would like to use the photos for a project of your own please feel free, I would love to know if you do, and what you made. So if you link back to this site, just to let everyone know that would be great.  The picture here is actually my Dad!

Craft Robo
I have added a Christmas box decoration - or you can use it as a gift box, this was a quick sample I did yesterday - but I am sure you can do better than that :)

PDF templates
When I add something to the Robo section I will make it into a PDF file as well - so you can print it and cut it out - so the Christmas decoration is available for you if you do not have a Robo.  I have set up a new section for these so that you will know what is available to you.
Glass Etching with Vinyl
Lisa (Craft Fairy) has been playing with vinyl in her Craft Robo and used it to etch glasses - shown below - what a great idea for a special occasion.
